To engage an interior designer or not?

Many consumers in Singapore are always floundered by the dilemma of whether to engage an interior designer for their homes. This is our take on that issue. Everything is balance between pros and cons. PROS: 1. An interior designer is your first line project manager. He is answerable to you and is accountable to his contractor. 2. He knows what he is doing. Good interior designers knows the placement of items and every inch of what they are doing. 3. Interior designers can help you acheive the home of your choice. With their studies and training in art & decor, they will be of great help. CONS: 1. They take a slice of what you pay, and pass the rest to their contractors. This is often hefty, and perhaps is a huge consideration for many home owners. Many of the times, project managers take anywhere from 30-50% of the project cost. This leaves little margin for their contractors - who have to labor to finish the project. 2. Contractors are also good project managers and they also can make good recommendations to your designers. 3. Interior designers might be improperly trained. Interior designers are not required to be registered with any council in Singapore. Ultimately, whether you choose to hire an interior designer or not depends on your budget, your expectations and the balance of the pros and cons.
